Here is one way how we simulate a sunset in B3D 2.79 with A.L.L. Addon (Alpha Level).
Scene setup :
Light setup via Python Script (Candela Light) - The candela (cd) is the base unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI); that is, luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a point light source in a particular direction. Luminous intensity is analogous to radiant intensity, but instead of simply adding up the contributions of every wavelength of light in the source's spectrum, the contribution of each wavelength is weighted by the standard luminosity function. We used in the simulated stratosphetre 4 layers (Reflectin/Refraction). For the light (transmission), we used a sender and a receiver (measuring the cd value). Depended on the angle of the sun, the sun get the correct color and appearance.
